Set amongst the clouds off to the west of Faerun sits the vast continent of Aerilon, made up of 10 various sized floating islands of radically changing geological and ecological make up. Each of the 10 islands are at different heights in the sky and from each other, which impacts the differences in flora, fauna and indeed monsters that belong to each one.
From the days of titanic struggles between giants and dragons, to the time of warring gods, Aerilon has been a continent of great powers and endless change, triumph, and conflict. Its primary races—dragonkin, dwarves, half elves, humans, kobolds, minotaurs, ravenfolk, fey, and trollkin—have each held vast kingdoms among the islands, while just as many races of a lesser populous have fought to establish nations of their own, from goblin warbands to nomadic gnolls.
And even among those that have held sway over entire realms, glory can be fleeting and no nation lasts forever. The giants rose and fell long ago. More recently, the elves have largely abandoned the continent, having retreated to the Summer Lands of the fey and the Shadow Realm for darker courts and minions. Though some still linger here.
The world’s magic is powered by rivers of pure magical energy that run not seen by the typical eye, but can fuel a wizard’s power, or can help a villain’s plan unfold. This magic enables swift travel along shadow roads and down catslide alleys, connecting distant realms for those daring enough to find, unlock, and travel on these passageways.
To understand those places and their connections, here is an overview of 10 great regions where adventure awaits, with a quick summary of important places, events, and history in each area.
